Services

Everything a small business needs from an accountant month to month, and once a year at tax time. Take one service or all of them; each has its own price.

Monthly bookkeeping

from $300 a monthpriced by how many transactions you have

Your books kept current and closed every month, so you always know what the business made and what it owes.

  • Every bank, card and loan account reconciled to its statement
  • Transactions categorized, with receipts matched where you send them
  • Profit and loss, balance sheet and a short note on anything unusual, by the 15th
  • One email a month with any questions we have, never a drip of them
  • Quarterly estimated tax figures, so the payments are based on real numbers

2 accounts are included; each extra account is $25 a month.

Catch-up bookkeeping

from $225 per month behindcharged once

For businesses that are months, or years, behind. We rebuild the missing months from bank and card statements until the books are current, then carry on monthly if you want us to.

  • Statements gathered and every month reconciled in order
  • Owner draws, loans and personal spending separated out properly
  • A list of anything that can't be explained from the statements, for you to answer once
  • Books ready for the overdue returns to be filed

Catch-up months cost 75% of the monthly bookkeeping rate for the same volume. You get the full figure before we start.

Payroll

$60 a monthplus $8 per employee

Payroll run on time through your payroll provider, with the filings that come with it handled for you.

  • New employees set up with their W-4 and state forms
  • Paychecks and direct deposit on your schedule
  • Quarterly 941 and annual 940 returns, and state payroll filings
  • W-2s to employees and the Social Security Administration each January
  • A reasonable salary worked out for S corp owners who pay themselves through payroll

The payroll provider's own subscription is separate and paid by you directly, so you can see exactly what it costs.

Business tax returns

from $550 a yearby type of business

The federal business return prepared from books we already know, filed electronically, with the deadline tracked for you.

  • Extensions filed when they make sense, with the tax still paid on time
  • Quarterly estimated tax worked out from your actual year to date
  • A walk-through of the finished return before it is filed

Prices assume we kept the books for the year. If we didn't, we will quote the return after looking at your records. State returns are quoted on the call, since they vary so much between states.

Sales tax

$75 a monthper state

Sales tax returns prepared from your books and filed in each state where you are registered.

  • Returns filed on each state's schedule, monthly, quarterly or annually
  • Sales tax collected reconciled to what is paid
  • Help registering in a new state when your sales there cross its threshold

1099 contractor filing

$15 per form$75 minimum a year

Contractors tracked through the year so January is a formality.

  • W-9s requested from new contractors before their first payment
  • Payments totalled from the books, not from memory
  • 1099-NECs sent to contractors and filed with the IRS by the deadline

Advice when you need it

Includedfor monthly clients

Questions that come up between month-ends, answered from your own numbers.

  • Whether an S corp election would save you money, and what it would cost to run
  • How much to set aside for tax each month
  • Whether you can afford to hire, and what an employee really costs
  • What to expect at year end, before it arrives

What we don't do

Better to say so now than on the call.

  • Audited or reviewed financial statements. If a lender or investor needs these, they have to come from a licensed CPA firm.
  • Legal advice. We will tell you how a choice affects your taxes; an attorney should draft the documents.
  • Investment or retirement planning. We can tell you what you can afford to put away, not where to put it.
  • Personal returns with no business attached. We file owners' returns as part of the business work, not on their own.

Not sure which of these you need?

That is what the free consultation is for. Thirty minutes, and you leave with a fixed price for the work.
